- Q1NEET 2026Average Speed vs Average Velocity
Consider a particle moving along a straight line, whose position as a function of time is given by s(t) = αt² − βt + γ, where α = 1 ms⁻², β = 6 ms⁻¹ and γ = 5 m. The average speed of the particle, in ms⁻¹, from t = 0 to t = 6 s is:
- A. 6
- B. 3
- C. 0
- D. 12
Show answer
Answer: A — 6
s(t) = t² - 6t + 5. Velocity v(t) = 2t - 6, which is zero at t = 3 s, so the particle reverses direction at t=3s and we must use total distance, not displacement. s(0)=5, s(3)=9-18+5=-4, s(6)=36-36+5=5. Distance from t=0 to 3: |-4-5|=9 m. Distance from t=3 to 6: |5-(-4)|=9 m. Total distance = 18 m. Average speed = total distance/total time = 18/6 = 3 ms⁻¹.
- Q2NEET 2025Differentiation / Kinematics
In some appropriate units, time(t) and position (x) relation of a moving particle is given by t = x² + x. The acceleration of the particle is:
- A. −2/(x+2)³
- B. −2/(2x+1)³
- C. +2/(x+1)³
- D. +2/(2x+1)
Show answer
Answer: A — −2/(x+2)³
From t = x²+x, differentiate: 1 = (2x+1)v, so v = 1/(2x+1). a = v(dv/dx) = [1/(2x+1)]×[−2/(2x+1)²] = −2/(2x+1)³.
- Q3NEET 2025Relative Velocity
Two cities X and Y are connected by a regular bus service with a bus leaving in either direction every T min. A girl is driving scooty with a speed of 60 km/h in the direction X to Y notices that a bus goes past her every 30 minutes in the direction of her motion, and every 10 minutes in the opposite direction. Choose the correct option for the period T of the bus service and the speed (assumed constant) of the buses.
- A. 9 min, 40 km/h
- B. 25 min, 100 km/h
- C. 10 min, 90 km/h
- D. 15 min, 120 km/h
Show answer
Answer: C — 10 min, 90 km/h
Let bus speed = V, distance between buses = d = VT. d/(V−60) = 1/2 h and d/(V+60) = 1/6 h. Dividing: (V+60)/(V−60) = 3, giving V = 120 km/h. Then d = (120−60)/2×... = 30 km, and T = d/V = 30/120 h = 1/4 h = 15 min.
- Q4NEET 2024Velocity-Time to Acceleration-Time Graph Conversion
The velocity (v) - time (t) plot of the motion of a body is shown below: [Trapezoidal v-t graph: v increases linearly, constant, then decreases linearly to zero] The acceleration (a) - time(t) graph that best suits this motion is: [Four options showing different a-t graph shapes]
- A. Graph showing positive rectangular pulse then negative rectangular pulse (graph 1)
- B. Graph showing negative rectangle then increasing line (graph 2)
- C. Trapezoidal shape (graph 3)
- D. Increasing then constant positive (graph 4)
Show answer
Answer: —
Since a = dv/dt = slope of v-t curve: during the rising linear part of v-t, acceleration is a positive constant (rectangular pulse); during the constant velocity part, acceleration is zero; during the falling linear part, acceleration is a negative constant (rectangular pulse below axis). This matches graph (1).

- Q5NEET 2023Average Speed Calculation
A vehicle travels half the distance with speed v and the remaining distance with speed 2v. Its average speed is:
- A. 2v/3
- B. 4v/3
- C. 3v/4
- D. v/3
Show answer
Answer: A — 2v/3
Average speed for equal distances traveled at different speeds = 2v1v2/(v1+v2) = 2(v)(2v)/(v+2v) = 4v²/3v = 4v/3.
- Q6NEET 2023Vertical Projectile from a Height
A horizontal bridge is built across a river. A student standing on the bridge throws a small ball vertically upwards with a velocity 4 ms^-1. The ball strikes the water surface after 4s. The height of bridge above water surface is (Take g=10 ms^-2):
- A. 60 m
- B. 64 m
- C. 68 m
- D. 56 m
Show answer
Answer: A — 60 m
Using -h = ut - (1/2)gt² with u=4, t=4: -h = 4×4 - (1/2)×10×16 = 16-80 = -64, so h = 64m.
- Q7NEET 2022Distance in nth Second - Free Fall
The ratio of the distances travelled by a freely falling body in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th second is:
- A. 1:2:3:4
- B. 1:4:9:16
- C. 1:3:5:7
- D. 1:1:1:1
Show answer
Answer: B — 1:4:9:16
Distance traveled in the nth second under constant acceleration (starting from rest) follows the pattern of consecutive odd numbers: 1:3:5:7, since distance in nth second = g(2n-1)/2.
- Q8NEET 2022Velocity from Displacement-Time Graph
The displacement-time graphs of two moving particles make angles of 30 degrees and 45 degrees with the x-axis as shown in the figure. The ratio of their respective velocity is:
- A. sqrt(3):1
- B. 1:1
- C. 1:2
- D. 1:sqrt(3)
Show answer
Answer: C — 1:2
Velocity equals the slope of the displacement-time graph, i.e., tan(theta). v1:v2 = tan30:tan45 = (1/sqrt3):1 = 1:sqrt(3).

- Q9NEET 2022Free Fall
The ratio of the distances travelled by a freely falling body in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th second
- A. 1 : 2 : 3 : 4
- B. 1 : 4 : 9 : 16
- C. 1 : 3 : 5 : 7
- D. 1 : 1 : 1 : 1
Show answer
Answer: B — 1 : 4 : 9 : 16
Distance in nth second ∝ (2n-1), so ratio for n=1,2,3,4 is 1:3:5:7.
- Q10NEET 2022Displacement-Time Graph
The displacement-time graphs of two moving particles make angles of 30° and 45° with the x-axis as shown in the figure. The ratio of their respective velocity is
- A. √3 : 1
- B. 1 : 1
- C. 1 : 2
- D. 1 : √3
Show answer
Answer: C — 1 : 2
v1 = tan(30°) = 1/√3, v2 = tan(45°) = 1. Ratio v1:v2 = (1/√3):1 = 1:√3.
