NEET PYQ Chapter-wise: How to Use Previous Year Questions to Score 600+ in NEET 2027

17 October 2026 · 4 min read

Previous year questions (PYQs) are the closest thing to the real NEET paper you can practise with. They show you which NCERT lines NTA likes to test, how tricky the options get, and how fast you need to be. But solving PYQs the wrong way, all at once and only at the end, wastes their value. This guide shows you how to use NEET PYQs chapter by chapter, from today until exam day.

Why NEET PYQs matter so much

NEET UG has 180 questions for 720 marks in 3 hours: 45 each from Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Every correct answer gives you 4 marks, and every wrong answer takes away 1. That means two things:

  • Accuracy matters as much as knowledge. PYQs train you to spot the trap options NTA uses again and again.
  • Speed matters. You have about one minute per question. PYQs teach you which question types to solve fast and which to leave for the second round.

Most NEET Biology questions come straight from NCERT lines, diagrams and tables. When you solve Biology PYQs chapter-wise, you quickly see which lines get asked and which parts of each chapter you can read lightly.

The 4-step plan to use PYQs chapter by chapter

  1. Finish the chapter from NCERT first. Read the NCERT chapter, make short notes, then solve the PYQs of only that chapter. Solving PYQs before you study the chapter just measures what you don't know yet.
  2. Solve the chapter's PYQs with a timer. Give yourself 1 minute per question. This builds exam speed from day one, not just in the last month.
  3. Mark every question in one of three ways. Correct and confident, correct but guessed, or wrong. Treat guessed answers as wrong; they will fail you under pressure.
  4. Go back to NCERT for every mistake. Find the exact line, diagram or formula the question came from and underline it. This turns each mistake into a revision note.

A simple weekly timetable

DayWhat to do
Monday to FridayStudy 1–2 new chapters. Solve that chapter's PYQs the same day.
SaturdayRe-solve every PYQ you got wrong or guessed this week.
SundayTake one full-length mock test (180 questions, 3 hours) and analyse it.

From about two months before the exam, add full past papers under real exam conditions: same start time, OMR-style answering and no breaks.

Subject-wise tips

Biology (90 questions)

Biology is half the paper, so it decides your rank. Solve Botany and Zoology PYQs alongside NCERT reading, and pay close attention to diagrams, tables and examples, because NEET often asks about them directly.

Chemistry (45 questions)

Inorganic Chemistry PYQs are mostly NCERT facts, so revise them often. In Physical Chemistry, PYQs show which formulas get used most. In Organic Chemistry, PYQs reveal the named reactions and conversions that keep coming back.

Physics (45 questions)

Physics PYQs repeat concepts rather than exact questions. After each chapter, list the question types you saw (for example, graph-based, formula-based, conceptual) and practise more of the type you got wrong.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Saving all PYQs for the last month. You lose the chance to fix weak chapters early.
  • Only checking the answer key. Without going back to NCERT, you will make the same mistake again.
  • Ignoring negative marking. If you can't rule out at least two options, leave the question. A wrong answer costs you 5 marks compared with a correct one.
  • Solving PYQs without a timer. Slow, untimed practice gives you false confidence.

Frequently asked questions

How many years of NEET PYQs should I solve?

Aim for at least the last 10 years, chapter-wise. If you have time, older papers are still useful for Biology and Chemistry concepts.

Should I solve PYQs chapter-wise or as full papers?

Both. Solve chapter-wise PYQs while you study each chapter, and full papers in the last two to three months to build stamina and timing.

Are NEET PYQs enough to score 600+?

PYQs alone are not enough, but PYQs plus thorough NCERT reading plus regular full mock tests is a proven plan. PYQs show you what gets asked; mock tests show you whether you can do it in 3 hours.
